Former West Virginia standout Jamie Merriam scored two goals and assisted another to spark Christos FC to a 7-2 rout of Yinz FC in a Maryland Champions League Rowland Cup match.

Jacob Bender (Messiah) totaled a goal and an assist for Christos, which advances to face Brainstorm FC on Feb. 16 in the next round of the Rowland Cup. Kyle Saunders (UMBC), Mamadou Kansaye (UMBC) and Brian Graham (UNC-Greensboro) also scored goals.

Nabil Odulate (Bowdoin) and Nick Gumbs (UMBC) both contributed two assists for the Linthicum-based soccer club, which meets Starliners FC this Sunday (11 a.m.) at Blaindair Park in a Stewart Cup semifinal.

The Stewart Cup is Maryland’s second-oldest competition, having been established in 1932. Winner of the Stewart Cup qualifies for the U.S. Amateur Cup finals.
